The incident took place in Hartford County around 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 6 in Newington at the O’Reilly Auto Parts located at 3443 Berlin Turnpike.

According to Sgt. Ryan Deane, of the Newington Police, officers responded to the store for a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located two victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including the pregnant woman who was shot in shot in the calf and hip as she tried to flee, police said.

The woman is listed in stable condition and a male employee shot multiple times is listed in critical condition, Deane said.

Police resources were requested from surrounding towns to assist in locating Hackett and a search was initiated using K-9 units, aerial drones, and tactical units, he added.

At 9 p.m., several residents in a neighborhood about a half-mile northwest of the shooting location began to contact Newington Police dispatch about a suspicious man walking in the area, Deane said.

The man matched Hackett's description and officers responded to the area where he was taken into custody without incident, police said.

  • Assault
  • Robbery
